A Maylands family was forced to flee their home after a fire broke out in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Firefighters from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services were called to the two-storey Sussex Street home at 2.37am.
It took about 45 minutes for 20 firefighters to contain the fire, which caused about $300,000 damage.
One neighbour said he was thankful nobody had been seriously injured.
“A house you can replace, a life you can’t,” he said.
“It’s a silver lining for them all to have managed to escape,, From what I’ve heard, it sounds like the house is totally gutted.”
Paramedics treated one female occupant of the house for smoke inhalation.
A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said there was no indication what caused the fire. A fire investigation squad would work to determine the cause.
