Colin Barnett is still the Premier of WA.
Liberal MLA Murray Cowper moved for a leadership spill in the party room this morning, but the motion was defeated 31-15.
The challenge came after former Transport Minister Dean Nalder resigned on Saturday, claiming Mr Barnett’s leadership was “erratic and illogical” during a time of economic unrest and job uncertainty following the mining boom.
Former Local Government Minister Tony Simpson announced his resignation just 24 hours earlier.
Mr Cowper wanted a new leader and said in a statement yesterday Mr Barnett would not honour his previous promise to step aside if it was in the best interests of the party.
Walking into parliament this morning, Liza Harvey said she had absolute confidence that Colin Barnett would remain as Premier.
She said she would not challenge for the leader’s position and confirmed she would remain as Deputy Premier.
