Strung out makeup junkie steals gift card

A Perth woman has fallen victim to online theft after trying to sell a gift voucher on popular Facebook page Makeup Junkies Perth.

The page has more than 15,000 members and is used to share makeup advice and to buy or sell makeup.

An accidental oversight saw Shanae Arias post the barcode of the Mecca Cosmetica gift voucher she was trying to sell on the page. screen-shot-2016-09-20-at-4-12-13-pm

Group members commented on the post and warned Ms Arias to take down the photo as it could be used to purchase makeup through the Mecca online store, but it was too late.

“Some girls commented telling me that the numbers on the card can actually be used online and told me to delete the picture so I did straight away,” she said.

“I went online to check the balance of the card and it said the card was empty.”

The unfortunate incident has left Ms Arias feeling more deflated than Kylie Jenner’s lips circa 2013.

“They have practically stolen from me and I feel horrid.”

The Makeup Junkies Perth administrators contacted Ms Arias to try to help, but when Ms Arias contacted the Mecca Joondalup store they were not able to cancel the online order.

“When I finally got in contact with customer services they were very sincere and told me to leave it with them,” she said.

“When customer services contacted me back they informed me that yes someone had placed an order with my card and no they could not cancel the order or tell me any of their information.

“They told me to get the police to contact them and they would release the information.”

While the culprit is most likely waiting for the delivery of their new contour kit, Makeup Junkies Perth members want the thief’s true identity revealed. Many have called for the thief to be named and shamed.

“I hope the person owns up to it and compensates me for it,” she said.

“I am not an angry person, I am very caring and giving and it just sucks that someone would do this.”
