Wesley College sends four to AFL Draft Combine

Wesley College students account for four of the 12 West Australian footballers invited to this year’s AFL Draft Combine in Perth.

Cameron Zurhaar, Sam Powell-Pepper, Shai Bolton and Quinton Narkle were all invited to show off their wares at last week’s test, putting them in line to be drafted in November.

Wesley College first team coach and West Coast Eagles recruitment officer David Bourne said all four players had a high skill level.

“It’s not often so many students from a school outside Melbourne are asked to participate,” he said.

“Each of them have something unique to offer an AFL club.”

Bourne said he was often forced to keep them out of the school’s side because of other commitments.

“Shai only played one game at PSA [Private Schools Association] level, Sam probably only four and Cam and Quinton eight each,” he said.

“All four of them were playing district footy at various stages which kept them out of the school side.”

Despite their limited playing time at Wesley, Bourne said it was the best crop of talent he had seen from the school.

“It’s easily the largest number of Wesley invitees I’ve seen in my time at the school,” he said.

“This year will be our strongest for a while.”

The AFL Draft will be held on 25 November.
